Uncontested Divorces
In Harris County, an “uncontested” divorce is one in which both parties agree to all the terms of the separation (assets distribution, child custody, etc.) and, therefore, no issues arebe contested before the court. The beauty of an “uncontested” divorce is that you don’t really need two lawyers to successfully complete one. I am handling a divorce now that involves two mature adults who decided to divorce. The couple decided to divorce amicably and have a friendly relationship even though they are in the process of disolving their marriage. One of the party’s to the divorce did not hire an attorney because he didn’t want to spend the money and he already had an agreement as to everything. This type of divorce is much less expensive than a contested divorce because it requires only a fraction of the work for the attorney as well as the parties to the divorce. Usually, it seems that “uncontested” divorces result in less anger and frustration between the parties and, as a result, lasting friendships may form between the couple. Some attorney’s say that uncontested divorces do not exist… and they are largely correct. There always seems to be small, unforseen, issuein a divorce that complicates the process and converts the divorce into a “contested” one. In Harris County, however, courts love uncontested divorces because it unclogs their dockets and reduces the number of hearings a judge has to sit through. Think about working out a deal with your spouse before you go through with a divorce. Maybe you will be one of the lucky few that are abel to manage an “uncontested” divorce.
