Family Law Attorney Luis Midence attended Law School at South Texas College of Law. Prior to Law School he worked for Senator John Whitmire of Houston (chair of criminal justice committee in the State Legislature). He obtained his Juris Doctor in 2003 and was admitted to practice law in the State of Texas.

Luis has handled family law matters including all aspects of Divorce and Legal Separation, Complex Division of Property, Division of Business Assets, Preparation of Prenuptial Agreements, Interstate Divorces, Prosecution and Defense of Restraining Orders, Prosecution and Defense of Domestic Violence Protection Orders, Prosecution and Defense of Anti-harassment orders, Preparation of Qualified Domestic Relations Orders, Representation in Paternity Matters, Mediation of Paternity and Divorce Matters, Handling Third party Custody Actions, Obtaining and Defending Requests for Spousal Maintenance, Arguing Jurisdiction and Venue Cases, and Handling No Contest Divorces.

Matt Skillern is a founding partner at Midence & Skillern. He is licensed to practice law by the Supreme Court of Texas. Mr. Skillern has achieved outstanding results for clients in a wide variety of family law matters. Also, he has established a reputation as a trial lawyer who will fight for his clients.
Mr. Skillern is a member of the Family Law Section of The State Bar Of Texas, and the Ft. Bend County Bar Association.

Mr. Skillern was recently selected as a Rising Star by the Texas Super Lawyers Magazine. This is a distinction awarded to the top attorneys under 40. As a family law practitioner he has extensive experience negotiating and litigating family law cases and has handled many jury and non-jury trials involving property and child custody issues. Matt has been hired by other attorneys to provide assistance in complex family law disputes due to his expertise in resolving complicated property questions and in handling expert witnesses in property and custody cases. Because of his knowledge of legal procedure and evidence rules, he is also called upon to serve as co-counsel by family lawyers who seek to maximize their chance of success in cases they expect to be appealed to a higher court.

Education

Mr. Skillern earned his juris doctorate degree from South Texas College of Law. As a law student, he was a member of the Law Review, the Dean’s List and a recipient of the South Texas Merit Scholarship. Matt earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Baylor University.

Personal

Matt Skillern was born in Houston, Texas. He attended Stafford high school where he was a member of the National Honor Society, captain of the football and baseball teams, and a member of the varsity basketball team. He enjoys sporting events, fishing and spending time with family and friends.
